  • Dr Mark Wilson
Dr Mark Wilson MBBS, MIPH(Hons), PhD, FRACGP, FARGP

I graduated with an MB BS from the University of Queensland in 1989.

My internship was at Cairns Base Hospital, followed by an RMO 1 year at Royal North Shore Hospital, St Leonards. My third post-graduate year was spent as the deputy medical superintendent at the provincial hospital for the Enga Province, in the PNG highlands. As an unaccredited surgical registrar at RNSH, I passed the surgical primary examination in 1993. After that I chose to transfer into training for rural general practice.

From 1994 to now, my clinical work has been focused on primary care, especially in rural and regional settings, for the most part in New South Wales. I obtained a diploma in obstetrics and gynaecology (1995), certification in rural anaesthesia (1996), FRACGP and FARGP. I enjoy treating people of all ages as their GP. Since the beginning of 2022 I have been working part time at Robertson Doctor, and very much enjoy the experience.

I assist one of our local general surgeons weekly at Southern Highlands Private Hospital.

From 2005-2009 I undertook the Master in International Public Health at the University of Sydney, graduating with honours in 2010. From 2008 to 2013 I tutored in the MIPH program at USYD, with my particular favourite the subject of Women’s and Children’s Health.

From April 2014 to June 2019, I had the role of Academic Leader: Community Based Health Education & Chair of Phase 3 of the graduate medical program at the University of Wollongong. I have been interested in medical education for many years, both of students and registrars, teaching a Phase 3 medical student at my previous practice in Bowral since the commencement of the UOW medical program.

I have been a director of Harbison Care, the oldest not for profit aged care provider in the Southern Highlands, since 2011. I am currently the Deputy Chair of Harbison and Chair of Governance.

My PhD studies were completed in 2020, through the University of Sydney. The initial plan was to introduce innovation in the curriculum in aged care at the UOW medical school, with the goal of measuring an improvement in medical student attitudes towards older people. The focus of my PhD changed to become the development of a reliable and valid new Australian instrument with which to measure medical student attitudes towards older people. We named the new instrument the Australian Ageing Semantic Di!erential. I look forward to doing further research in the future.
